IIT Ropar Inaugurates 16th Cyber-Physical Systems Lab in Chennai under NM-ICPS

Driving Innovation in Tamil Nadu: First CPS Lab in South India Launched at Hindustan University, Chennai

On 20 September 2025, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar – iHub AWaDH inaugurated its 16th Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) Laboratory at the Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS), Chennai, Tamil Nadu, under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS), Department of Science & Technology (DST). This landmark event marks the establishment of the first-ever CPS Lab in South India, expanding the national CPS Lab network and strengthening India’s mission to decentralize deep-tech innovation. A Milestone for Tamil Nadu and South India.

The CPS Lab at HITS is designed to provide cutting-edge infrastructure, tools, and resources in frontier technologies such as: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), CPS hardware, smart sensors, and automation kits. By equipping students, faculty, and researchers with hands-on experience in these domains, the lab will foster an ecosystem of skilling, research, and innovation. Beyond academics, it will serve as a launchpad for startups and entrepreneurial ventures, accelerating Tamil Nadu’s deep-tech journey and positioning South India as a critical hub for CPS-driven innovation.
