Workshop at National Institute of technology , Delhi

“Beyond Connectivity: The Evolution of Next-Gen IoT”

The AWaDH Cyber Physical Systems Laboratory, National Institute of Technology Delhi,  successfully organized a six-day workshop titled “Beyond Connectivity: The Evolution of Next Gen IoT with Hands-on Experience” from March 19 to 24, 2025. The primary objective of this workshop was to provide an interactive platform for researchers, faculty members, and engineers to discuss cutting-edge developments in Internet of Things (IoT) and gain hands-on experience in both software simulations and hardware implementation

This workshop served as a bridge between academia and industry by featuring expert lectures  from renowned academicians, industry professionals, and startup entrepreneurs specializing in IoT. Participants had the opportunity to explore the latest advancements in IoT, real-world applications, and future directions of smart connected systems

First Day Sessions 

The first day of the workshop featured insightful lectures by distinguished experts in the field:

1. Dr. Pushpendra P. Singh (Dean R&D, IIT Ropar) 

o Topic: Role of Digital Emerging Technologies for Evergreen Revolution  Addressing Global Food Security Issues 

o Dr. Singh highlighted how emerging digital technologies, including IoT, AI, and blockchain, are playing a crucial role in revolutionizing the 

agricultural sector. 

o The discussion covered precision farming, real-time monitoring of crops, and  supply chain transparency, emphasizing their impact on sustainability and  global food security

o He stressed the need for integrating sensor networks and AI-driven predictive  analytics to optimize agricultural productivity and reduce food wastage.

  1. Dr. Kavya Dashora (Associate Professor, IIT Delhi) 

o Topic: AI in Post-Harvest Agri-Food System 

o Dr. Dashora provided insights into the role of artificial intelligence in post harvest management, focusing on food preservation, quality control, and  waste reduction

o The lecture emphasized how AI can enhance sorting and grading of  

agricultural produce, optimize storage conditions, and improve logistics

o She also discussed machine learning models for predicting shelf life and  minimizing post-harvest losses, showcasing real-world case studies where AI applications have significantly benefited agri-food systems.

Second Day Sessions 

The second day of the workshop featured expert sessions from distinguished speakers  focusing on advanced IoT paradigms and the need for fog computing 

augmentation

  1. Dr. Sahil (Assistant Professor, NIT Delhi) 

o Topic: Need of Fog Augmentation in IoT-Based Environments 

o Dr. Sahil emphasized the growing need for fog computing as an intermediary  layer between cloud computing and edge devices. 

o He discussed how fog computing improves response time, reduces latency,  and enhances data security in IoT applications. 

o Participants learned about real-world use cases, including smart cities,  industrial automation, and healthcare monitoring systems, where fog  computing is essential for real-time decision-making.

  1. Dr. Mahesh K. Singh (Assistant Professor, NIT Delhi) 

o Topic: Cognitive IoT: A New Paradigm Beyond Connection 

o Dr. Singh introduced the concept of Cognitive IoT (CIoT) and how it extends  traditional IoT systems by incorporating artificial intelligence and machine learning

o He discussed the advantages of self-learning IoT systems that can adapt and  optimize performance based on real-time data analysis

o The session covered applications of IoT in autonomous vehicles, smart grids,  and intelligent healthcare systems, showcasing the evolution of IoT beyond  simple device connectivity.

The Third day of the workshop focused on IoT security challenges and data analytics with  expert lectures from: 

  1. Dr. Pankaj Mukhija (Associate Professor, NIT Delhi) 

o Topic: Security Challenges in IoT Systems 

o Dr. Mukhija discussed the vulnerabilities of IoT networks, potential cyber  

threats, and risk mitigation strategies

o He highlighted real-world case studies on IoT security breaches and best  

practices to enhance security in IoT architectures.

  1. Dr. Anurag Singh (Associate Professor, NIT Delhi) 

o Topic: Data Analytics: Exploring Key Concepts, Trends, and Applications in 

Data Analytics 

o Dr. Singh provided insights into data analytics methodologies, trends in big  data, and its applications in IoT

o He discussed machine learning models for IoT data analysis, predictive  

analytics, and real-time data processing.

Fourth Day Sessions 

The fourth day of the workshop focused on IoT-driven energy systems and machine learning based intrusion detection

  1. Dr. Anmol Ratna Saxena (Associate Professor, NIT Delhi) 

o Topic: IoT-Driven Energy Systems 

o Dr. Saxena discussed the integration of IoT in energy systems, highlighting its role in smart grids, demand response, and renewable energy optimization

o He showcased case studies on IoT-based power management solutions that  enhance efficiency and sustainability in the energy sector.

Fifth Day Sessions 

The fifth day of the workshop focused on machine learning-based intrusion detection and  embedded sensing system design for IoT applications

  1. Dr. Vireshwar Kumar (Assistant Professor, IIT Delhi) 

o Topic: Machine Learning-Based Intrusion Detection in IoT Networks 

o Dr. Kumar elaborated on cybersecurity threats in IoT networks and the  

application of ML techniques for intrusion detection

o He demonstrated various machine learning models used for anomaly  

detection and threat mitigation in IoT systems.

  1. Dr. Shahid Malik (Assistant Professor, EE Dept., IIT Delhi) 

o Topic: Design Guidelines Related to Embedded Sensing System Design for IoT  Applications 

o Dr. Malik discussed the critical design principles for embedded sensing  

systems used in IoT applications. 

o The session covered sensor selection, low-power design considerations, and  real-world deployment challenges

o He also emphasized the role of hardware-software co-design in optimizing  

performance and energy efficiency in IoT-based embedded systems.

Sixth Day Sessions 

The final day of the workshop focused on the changing landscape of IoT systems with the  deployment of private 5G networks

  1. Prof. Krishna Sirohi (Professor of Practice, IIT Delhi) 

o Topic: Changed Landscape of IoT Systems in Light of Private 5G Network  

Deployment 

o Prof. Sirohi discussed the transformative impact of private 5G networks on IoT infrastructure

o The session covered low-latency communication, enhanced network security,  and improved scalability of IoT deployments

o He also highlighted use cases in industrial automation, smart cities, and  

healthcare, showcasing how 5G is revolutionizing IoT ecosystems.
