IIT Ropar Inaugurates 21th Cyber-Physical Systems Lab in Punjab under NM-ICPS

In a continued effort to strengthen India’s deep-tech and skilling ecosystem, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar, through its Technology Innovation Hub iHub – AWaDH, marked the inauguration of its 21th Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) Lab at SBAS Government Polytechnic College, Badbar (Barnala) under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS). This milestone reflects a growing commitment to bringing advanced technology infrastructure closer to students and enabling innovation-led learning at the grassroots level.

The establishment of this CPS Lab represents a shared vision of empowering institutions with access to cutting-edge tools and hands-on learning environments. Designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry, the lab will enable students to build expertise in Cyber-Physical Systems, embedded systems, Internet of Things (IoT), and other smart technologies. By aligning technical education with real-world applications, the initiative aims to equip learners with future-ready skills and foster a culture of innovation and problem-solving.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by eminent dignitaries, including Sh. Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Sangrur, who attended as the Chief Guest; Sh. Tejveer Singh, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Technical Education & Industrial Training; Sh. Harpreet Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Barnala; and Sh. Moneesh Kumar, IAS, Director, Technical Education & Industrial Training, Government of Punjab. Their presence highlighted the strong alignment between government leadership and academic institutions in strengthening technical education and enabling large-scale skill development.

Following the inauguration, an intensive hands-on training session was conducted for students, where more than 55 participants were trained in structured CPS modules. The sessions focused on real-world applications, embedded hardware systems, and applied engineering concepts, ensuring that learners gain practical exposure alongside theoretical knowledge. This approach not only enhances technical understanding but also ensures sustainable knowledge transfer within the institution.

The launch of the 21TH CPS Lab further strengthens IIT Ropar’s vision of building a nationwide ecosystem of innovation-driven education. With each new lab, the initiative continues to expand opportunities for students and institutions, fostering industry-academia collaboration and enhancing employability through skill-based learning. As India moves toward becoming a global leader in emerging technologies, such initiatives play a crucial role in shaping a future-ready workforce and driving inclusive technological growth.
