In the heart of Punjab’s industrial hub, a new chapter in technology and innovation unfolded as iHub – AWaDH @ IIT Ropar inaugurated its 11th Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) Lab at the Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings (CICU), Ludhiana. This milestone marks not just another lab opening but a significant step in strengthening the bridge between academia and industry.
For years, the gap between research and real-world industrial application has been a challenge. While academia generates groundbreaking ideas, industries often struggle to integrate them effectively. Recognizing this, AWaDH took a pioneering leap by launching its first industry-based CPS Lab at CICU, an initiative designed to bring researchers, innovators, and industrialAWaDH CPS Labs - website (1) AWaDH CPS Labs - website professionals together under one roof.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by Shri J.S. Bhogal, setting the tone for a day filled with collaboration and forward-thinking discussions. Shri Upkar Singh Ahuja, President of CICU, emphasized the importance of industry-academia collaboration in emerging technologies, urging stakeholders to leverage this initiative for technological advancement. The launch was graced by esteemed dignitaries who brought diverse perspectives on how Industry 4.0 is set to transform Punjab’s industrial ecosystem.
Dr. Radhika Trikha, CEO of iHub – AWaDH @ IIT Ropar, provided an overview of the CPS Lab initiative, highlighting its potential to equip students, researchers, and entrepreneurs with hands-on experience in next-gen technologies. Mr. Osamu Shimada, Deputy Manager at Panasonic, spoke on global technological trends and their implications for India’s manufacturing sector. Mr. Manish Gupta, former Chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Lead at Synergy Enterprises, shared insights on how CPS can drive efficiency and innovation in industrial operations. Dr. Jatinder Kaur Arora, former Executive Director of the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology, underlined the importance of fostering R&D collaborations between academic institutions and industries. Mr. Somveer Anand, CEO and Mission Director of Innovation Mission Punjab, emphasized Punjab’s role in India’s industrial transformation and how CPS labs can be a catalyst for smart manufacturing and automation.
Attendees were given a guided tour of the AWaDH CPS Lab, where they witnessed cutting-edge automation, IoT frameworks, and real-time data processing technologies in action. Designed for students, researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and industry professionals, the lab will serve as a training ground for future-ready talent in cyber-physical systems. With this strategic step, iHub – AWaDH @ IIT Ropar is reshaping the technology landscape by making CPS accessible to industries, fostering research-driven entrepreneurship, and nurturing the next generation of technology leaders.
