IIT Ropar Inaugurates 20th Cyber-Physical Systems Lab in Punjab under NM-ICPS

In a significant step toward expanding India’s Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) ecosystem, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar, iHub – AWaDH, successfully established its 20th CPS Lab at Government Polytechnic College, Bhikhiwind under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS). This initiative aims to extend the advanced innovation and research ecosystem of IIT Ropar to partner institutions across the country, ensuring that students and faculty at the grassroots level gain access to cutting-edge technologies and practical learning opportunities.

The IIT Ropar CPS Lab initiative is designed to bridge the gap between premier institutions and regional colleges by enabling hands-on exposure to CPS technologies. Through this lab, students and educators can engage with real-world applications, develop technical competencies, and participate in innovation-driven learning aligned with industry needs. The lab at Government Polytechnic College Bhikhiwind will act as a hub for interdisciplinary collaboration, fostering creativity, experimentation, and problem-solving among young learners.

The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Chief Guest MLA Sh. Sarvan Singh Dhun and Sh. Jatinderpal Singh Dhillon, Tehsildar, Bhikhiwind. Their presence reinforced the shared vision of strengthening technical education and empowering students at the grassroots level through access to modern technological infrastructure and knowledge systems.

Following the inauguration, a comprehensive Train-the-Trainer Program was conducted to ensure effective utilization and long-term sustainability of the lab. More than 150 students and faculty members participated in the program, receiving hands-on training from the IIT Ropar TIF team, including Pulkit Kumar (Project Coordinator), Ashutosh Kumar (Firmware Engineer), and Siddharth (Firmware Fellow). The sessions focused on building both foundational and applied CPS skills, enabling participants to further disseminate knowledge within their institution.

The establishment of the 20th CPS Lab marks another milestone in the mission to expand the NM-ICPS vision across India. By enabling institutions to nurture future-ready talent and adopt advanced technologies, IIT Ropar and iHub – AWaDH continue to play a pivotal role in building a strong, innovation-driven ecosystem.
